Bridge to Brisbane

The annual Bridge to Brisbane took place on Sunday 11th September

And wow, just look at all those people participating in such a good cause!

Oooh and lookie here! Crossroaders Mikaela and Beth are there!

Congratulations to both Mikaela and Beth on raising funds for the nominated charity Legacy and we're all very proud of your achievements! 10 kms? Yikes! I'm feeling awfully puffed just thinking about it! Well done girls!

Let's go bowling!

What to do when the weather isn't playing nicely and so the golfing plans had to be postponed at the last minute? Go bowling of course!

James

Katy

Ally

A 100-year-old woman from New Jersey has become the oldest competitor in the history of the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships. While bowling she kept yelling at the pins, "Hey kids, get off my property!" (true story!)

And to finish off here's a little bowling tune by local band Wiseacre. Sing along! Sorry the quality isn't very good...

Gone Fishing...again...

Fishing has been a really popular option lately & this time the crew headed to the Woody Point Pier. Another gorgeous day in north BrisVegas!

Today we had this pretty assistant surveying the area for the best place to cast the lines (apologies if I'm not using the correct fishing terms here)

James baiting up & asking why the bait supply was running out so fast

Well, there's your answer James as to the dwindling bait supply. Mick has been feeding our smelly stash of prawn bits to our lovely assistant!

Everyone had a great time but unfortunately those sneaky fish just weren't biting today. Next fishing post will be a different story. We hope!

Gone Fishing...

The gang went fishing last week on the Bribie Island jetty. Sadly nobody caught anything but it was a beautiful day and everybody enjoyed themselves regardless. Oh, actually Tim caught a piece of seaweed so somebody DID catch something at least. And it was an impressive piece of seaweed! Onya Tim! The fish & chips lunch by the beach was rather tasty.

Happy Bastille Day!

How do aussies celebrate Bastille Day? Well I'm not sure how the rest of Australia celebrates, but we at Crossroads celebrated in style with a feast of fine french food, a little french music, some stripey shirts & an afternoon of water bomb fights! Water bombs may not be traditionally french, however, the spontaneity and frivolous fun of it all is very much what the french folk are all about I believe. A lovely day was had by all. Viva La France!

A City Adventure!

Ahoy! This is Beth from Crossroads! I thought I'd also help blog the daily adventures that our group members get up to!

Today James, Brett and I went to the beautiful Roma Street Parklands! The boys loved it and also shared their ideas and thoughts about gardening! This was then followed up by a delightful meal at Pancake Manor! Then we went to a quaint little cafe just outside the Regent called Aromas!

Hope you enjoy looking at the photos as much as we enjoyed taking them :)

Cool Beans... June Edition

Enjoying some beverages at Coffee Hit while ABC news interviewed staff member Lynda. The interview appeared on TV that night. As this took place a few weeks ago I can no longer recall what the interview was about...

Biff Bang Pow!

Here's the gang all ready to go into battle. Or commence their mission. Or to basically shoot each other senseless. Whatever the correct terminology is they had a whole lot of fun! They sure look like they mean business!

Light Years

On a recent day out in the Valley group members visited the IMA (Institute of Modern Art) to check out the Light Years exhibition by Brisbane born artist Peter Kennedy. This installation recreates the original Light Years installation exhibited in Australia in the early 70s. Still looking fresh!

An impromptu shadow puppet play performed by the group members

Katy stopping to look at a brochure she'd picked up, yet the image kind of gives the appearance of Katy performing a dramatic poetry reading in some old arty bohemian cafe, maybe giving Jack Kerouac a run for his money.

X marks the spot...

Fire! Fire! Fire!

Last week some group members from the Thursday program visited the Safehome Fire Education Centre in Petrie to learn all about fire safety.

The Fire Alert sign indicated that conditions were low risk on the day.

Settling in for a film screening.

Laura, Brett and James try on the fire safety gear. Oh-so-stylish!

This part of the session made a few people jump in fright!

The trainer demonstrates how to safely extinguish a smaller scale fire...

James bravely volunteers to attempt to put out a fire...

Mission successfully accomplished. Hurrah!
